After being born in Tacoma, WA Angela was adopted when she was two days old. She was raised in the same home in the Centennial School District, her entire childhood. She has one brother, who is five years older. Angela said her parents always supported her endeavors and she had a very loving home environment as a child. Her father has now passed, and her mom lives locally. Her brother and his family also live nearby. Angela played sports throughout her childhood, focusing on basketball and volleyball. She started as a competitive roller skater in her early years, before she began team sports. Although her parents were not themselves athletic, they strongly supported Angela and her brother and were "super fans" at both of their many sporting events. In her senior year at Centennial High School, Sue Doan coached Angela, and the team made it to the state championships, losing to Gresham. Angela was recruited by Boise State University and earned a full-ride scholarship to play volleyball. In her junior year at BSU, her knees gave her problems and she came home. While a student, Angela met Brian Davis, a BSU football player. Brian proposed marriage when she returned home and they married in August 1995. They rented a home across the street from her parents and in May 1998, their first daughter, Claire was born. Brian was coaching football at Centennial and Angela was coaching volleyball, both working a variety of other jobs as well. Their son Austin was born in Dec. 1999. Brian was hired to work at Consolidated Freightways and they purchased their first home in Gresham. When their daughter Grace was born in 2004, Consolidated Freightways closed, so Brian got a job with Legacy Health and went back to school to finish his degree in business. Angela continued to coach volleyball at Centennial and additionally began coaching club volleyball. She then went back to school to finish her bachelor's degree in education. Zane was born in October 2006. Angela ultimately wanted to be a teacher, so she continued with school, earning a master's degree in secondary education with an English endorsement from Concordia University. She did her student teaching with Jennifer Ducey at Corbett High for one year, then applied for a job as a sophomore English teacher in 2016 at Corbett High School. She was hired and continued coaching volleyball. Brian, Angela, and their family moved to their Corbett home in 2009. Angela was able to live, work, and coach in the Corbett community- a dream come true! In 2020, her dream got even better. Angela was asked to consider applying for the Athletic Director position at Corbett and was hired in 2021. She said it was like learning to drink from a fire hose! She has learned the job well and was asked to run for the position of 3A State Representative for the ORDA (Oregon Athletic Directors Association). This would be her third year to represent the schools across Oregon in addressing concerns and implementing policy concerns when needed.
This is a sweet time in Angela's life. Her youngest son Zane is a senior at Corbett High, Brian and Angela have one grandson with two more grandchildren on the way from Claire and Austin. Claire teaches 6th grade at Corbett Grade School and is the middle school volleyball coach. Austin is a police officer and Grace is in college. Brian is in the process of earning his doctorate and is an administrator for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. Angela loves staying connected with the students. She said that studies have proven kids suffer from mental health and depression issues as a result of a lack of playing sports. This proved true during Covid. Angela says you can learn things on the field, court, and track that cannot be duplicated in the academic classroom. Angela feels extremely fortunate to both work and coach in Corbett!
