Tanya Hayden-Food Services Assistant
Interviewed by Michelle Carter Smith
Mark and Dorthy Hayden raised their two children on Salzman Road in Corbett, and Dorthy continues to work as a longtime (35+ years) employee of the Corbett School District as a bus driver. Daughter Tanya was the youngest of the two Hayden kids and attended Corbett schools with her older brother. In high school, Tanya attended nearby Barlow High School. After graduation, Tanya held a variety of jobs locally and eventually got married to the father of her two sons. Currently, Tanya is living in Portland and both her boys attend Corbett High School. Hunter is a senior this year and plays both basketball and football. River is a junior and he enjoys video games and being with his friends. Tanya is a single mom who works full-time for the Corbett School District as a Food Services Assistant. This is a position she has held for more than ten years, and she greatly enjoys the opportunity to be a part of the district and see her boys while working! During the week, Tanya delivers breakfast and lunch meals to both CAPS and the Corbett Middle School as well as any extra food items needed. All district children are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, so Tanya is kept busy! She also oversees the students eating in the main campus cafeteria, inputs student information into the computer, and helps with anything needed in the kitchen such as restocking shelves or washing dishes. She said that the camaraderie with the staff is a gift, as everyone genuinely works together for the good of the order. While at home, Tanya enjoys crafting and gardening. She said she loves to make homemade salsa and jam in the summer. During the summer she also bartends at the local McMenamin's Edgefield and says that bartending is enjoyable for several reasons. It is a fun atmosphere and she regularly gets to see people she knows. The family has a two-year-old Golden Retriever named "Remi" and their pup is the baby of the family!
